Surf kayaking

Why go surf kayaking at all? Well, if you are a kayaking enthusiast, you would definitely want to catch many more waves than usual and paddle back fast. So when you prefer to go surf kayaking, you know very well that having lots of fun is part of its thrilling, adventure like spirit no matter whether there are diverse conditions.

The culture of surf kayaking is growing with a lot of popularity but beginners continue to struggle a lot to calculate the period of waves. So here are some tips to help you on surf kayaking:

Note that when waves are closer together, it would be harder for you to get out through such waves so always look for patterns in the series of waves that hit the beach. It is best to let the larger waves pass but you can also be on the lookout for side shore currents.

Timing is always crucial so when you first get involved in surf kayaking, start your practice by timing on the small waves first.

Suppose you are kayaking on a rocky beach but your boat has fins. In such a situation, your best option is to go out knee-deep in the water so that you can then get into the boat and paddle at a 45-degree angle. So with practice, you will be able to work out the perfect surf kayaking strategy.

When you want to catch waves, you have to first select the location and then assess when or rather how soon you would want to paddle into a wave. It is best to opt for waves that are more of the ground speed category.

For a perfect takeoff, examine the wave's peak carefully. It's not a good idea to try and ride on a broken wave as your boat will turn sideways. Once you are on a wave, let yourself lean back so that your nose wouldn’t get impacted and then it becomes easier for you to go ahead and flip tail over head. You can control your kayak by leaning in the direction where you want to go. But it is best to first get a solid practice of the lean using some basic surf maneuvers. Then, you can just opt for cutbacks or maybe bottom turns.

With these tips, enjoy your surf kayaking.
